We acknowledge that our institution and its activities have both direct and indirect environmental impacts. We see the protection of the environment and climate as an integral part of good institutional practice.

As a small university in the centre of big city, we are committed to be an increasingly environmentally friendly institution and to create a green campus. We are eager to contribute positively to addressing climate change and supporting environmental protection movements, through practical changes, our research and our educational practices.

We are motivated by our University's mission, which is based on Ignatian and Jesuit values, and the values expressed in the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus, the owner of our university. We are inspired by the encyclical letter of Pope Francis, Laudato si'. On care for our common home and its integral ecology approach developed as a Christian response to the current ecological crisis and climate change.

To support the gradual realization of these aspirations, our University is committed to:

  1. Complying with all relevant environmental and climate protection legislation and other environmental requirements to which the University subscribes.
  2. Collaborating with other academic institutions, with both state and local governments, and NGOs on the ecological and climate issues.
  3. Seeking to increase funding for research on ecology, the protection of the environment and sustainability as well as promoting related research activities at the University.
  4. Promoting education for sustainable development by:
    • designing extracurricular activities (ecological events, workshops and discussions),
    • building ecological issues into the existing content of courses, as we1l as offering courses and modules on ecology and climate protection,
    • supporting students who would like to prepare their coursework or final papers on ecological and climate issues,
    • engaging our students and staff in initiatives to minimise their environmental impact.
  5. Improving waste management practices to minimise waste generation and maximise the recycling and recovery of waste which is generated at the university (e.g. waste segregation, decreasing the amount of paper and printer ink use, using eco-friendly promotional materials etc.).
  6. Reducing or preventing pollution generated by the University through the effective and efficient use of resources (e.g. economical use of water, a reduction in the amount of single-use plastics etc.).
  7. Developing and maintaining an effective strategy for carbon emissions reduction:
    • monitoring the carbon footprint of the University,
    • using sustainable technologies,
    • increasing the amount of energy which comes from renewable sources,
    • improving the energy efficiency of the devices and buildings,
    • encouraging sustainńle travel amongst students, staff and visitors,
    • promoting the use of public means of transport (railways, buses, trams) as well as bicycle rentals.

The University's "Environmental Sustainability Policy Statement" is annually reviewed by the University's Environmental Sustainability Committee which also monitors the realization of the commitments and works on the long-term environmental strategy of thę University.
